Computer Services
Okay, here's the deal. I've had my computer account at my school disabled WAY too many times. Like five times in two years... And never for anything malicious, either. This last time was for having Pink Floyd on my account space. Never mind that it was 584 Megabytes... But that it wasn't dangerous or bad in anyway is apparently doesn't mater to our 'Computer Services'. I'm beginning to believe that it was just because I was the one that had it. Lots of other people had music on their accounts, some legitimate, some not, and there were no deletion of their accounts. Now, some other people did get their accounts disabled as well, but for other things. They also finally set a maximum limit on the account size, since it's a 400 gigabyte drive, and everyone knows students only need 100 MB... Unless they use the computers... heaven forbid.
And when the put the maximum limit, anyone with over 100 megs can't print, shows they have 1 TB (terabyte) free of some really bad 'number', which is actually lots of crazy symbols... It also mentioned that the File System is OS/2, which is a really old, now defunct, operating system. So basically, it glitches badly and doesn't let you do anything... That only effects, say 60 students per grade per school.
By now I'm hoping you can tell I don't like our 'Computer Services' too much... But I still refuse to do anything to them. I'm waiting for them to do it to themselves. Our administrator left himself logged in on a computer in the Library. For those who don't know, our Library probably has over half our school in there throughout the day. From the administrator account, you could delete everything on all the servers, probably backups as well. Or you could edit anything, or add anything, or whatever. Guess who finally had to log him off after he was gone for over an hour? Ya, me.
Sometimes I wish I had done something, but I'd probably have got expelled or something, since I'm at the top of their 'warning' list. It seems all they do is watch potential troublemakers, ignore real dangers, fix printers, and set up networks with CAT 5e or 6 cable (capable of very fast connection and transfer speeds) and ancient hubs and routers (making the previous item obsolete).
I don't know... Maybe they actually are good, nice people. But I don't want to deal with them, and I doubt they want to deal with me. I'm not even supposed to be on this right now, but their Web Page blocking is really bad, since the History Channel website and BBC.com are both blocked, and this place isn't... Go figure.
